19 Days and Waiting...

Training has been steady since my last update. Counting the days...like a kid waiting for Santa to come!
7/3: Another 6 mile swim with Cherie...the best paddler ever! Nutrition was right on stopping every 30 minutes for a drink of my "special water", some gu and thermolytes; muscle milk was every 90minutes. Ibuprophen at 2 hours. The swim started off nice and smooth, but that only lasted about 90 minutes at which time the wind picked up causing the lake to be a bit choppy. Good training day ending with a 2 hour nap!!

All Done! Where's breakfast??!!

7/4: Our 120 mile ride cut to 75 miles due to weather. Headed out with my Augusta 70.3 group for the first 40 miles to introduce them to some nice rolling hills on Cherry Lake. Good Times! From there Trungster, Stewie, Pagie, her hubby and I headed to Sugar Loaf and Buckhill to finish our last 80 miles. My best crew ever...Elizabeth...headed out to provide us support...with the dark clouds rolling in we sent Elizabeth home and finished our ride short but strong. Definitely could have kept on going. Finished off with the Ultra 4 all meeting for breakfast at the Country Kitchen! Yep...all 4 of us together. You would have enjoyed that conversation...all 4 of us on adrenalin highs from all the training and anticipation of this ultra endurance event.....We came up with a little slogan: "Ultra 4 - Activate! Form of...." (you fill in the blanks with whatever you need at the time :-)

Augusta Group at Waterfront Park Ultra 4 - Refueling!!!

7/5: One last 30 mile run w/ Trungster and Stewie! Plan was to run at Clay Rd but w/ the 4 days of rain prior we opted to head out to the Western Way 12 mile loop that we so often ride our bikes on. 2 1/2 loops and we'd have our 30 miles. Was actually perfect weather for the run. A light drizzle the entire time kept us pretty cool from what could have been a melt down. Elizabeth was AWESOME! She had all my nutrition/special needs ready every 2 miles...didn't miss a beat. Finished the 30 miles w/ a 8:12/mile pace and HR at 129 average. Right on target as my last peak run before race day.
Whoo Hoo!! We did it!! Only 22.4 to go!!

7/11: Another good training ride. First 45 miles w/ Augusta group...boy are they getting strong! Then finished last 40 w/ Trungster, Stewie and Mike today in the rolling hills off Avalon, Porter Rd and Seidel and Western Way area. 85 miles averaging around 19.5 w/ stops. Good day for nutrition...Around 5 hours had 5 bottles of eload/carbo pro/thermolytes(230 calories); 1 bottle of water; 1 muscle milk (thanks Cherie & Nash!)

Now...only 19 days to go. This will be the hardest part for me w/ the reduced training I will be a bit on edge and anxious for race day. All part of training for a big race....refusing the temptation to go hammer out a 100mile bike ride because you are feeling so good!
Cheers!
Sway
