Expert lake guide + determined swimmer = success

So I had to miss out on the big swim this weekend due to a respiratory bug. Slept well last night. Drank a big glass of chocolate milk in the middle of the night. Woke at 5am today, no wheezing, and it was time to swim. Ate a big bowl of oatmeal and Les and I headed for the lake. We quietly got the kayak ready and launched from the beach at 6:15. The lake was a beautiful with a bit of breeze out of the south. I was happy to find the breathing was easy just like it supposed to be in sharp contrast to my Saturday swim. Across the lake we went. I breath to the left and Les paddled about 15 feet to my left. It allows me to swim and never have to look forward. Saves your neck muscles and is a big relief to just swim. The first crossing was cool in that the moon was above Les' head. It ws a beautiful sunrise behind us that I checked out a couple times. The Sun was up in all its glory when we reached the other side. I drank a 300 cal bottle of eload/carbopro. The trip back across was a bit longer due to wind pushing us off course out of the south. Back at the beach I grabbed another bottle of nutrition off the dock. Drank another 300 cal bottle and took off swimming. Felt good on my second trip across. On the other side of the lake I drank my last 300 cal bottle and took a shot of espresso hammer gel. We took off on the last crossing. About halfway across my shoulders were talking to me (and not saying nice things). Finished strong despite the shoulder fatigue. 5 1/2 mile in 3:20 minutes. I now know I will do just fine Day 1 in Penticton. It will just take a long time. I got 12 hours to get day one done and we all know how I love to ride my bike.
Tomorrow its time to ride. Yippee
Jamie
